VLOG LAND!
The idea of talking to myself in front of a camera was and still is taboo for me, but after watching the “look at me video blog” it makes perfect sense. The first two purposes identity negotiation and narcissism really got me thinking. Every one of us at some point feels the need to express and feel that we are part of something, because of this we crave the need to be accepted. Vlog land in this sense helps us be part of something even if it deletes that physical interaction.

Depends how you define personal interaction. To me, one of the most valuable forms of personal interaction is letter-writing. There's a piece of paper between the two people (or in this example, a computer screen). But at the same time we can think over what we want to say, find creative or expressive ways to communicate that, and can share and connect what's important to us so that the other person both learns about that and connects with what we are saying or going through.
ReplyDeleteIdeally the interaction should be legit, but I feel that there is much more room for doubt than face to face. In writing we have time to think, which gives us that spatial window to hide our true meaning ; as opposed to, physical interaction ( less time to fake it). This doesn’t mean that physical interaction is a whole lot better, but it’s easier to identify the B.S; for example, last night I changed a couple of options on my car insurance policy. I went on their website and used their live chat customer service section. The representative seemed pretty annoyed. Our question and answer messages where off a bit, (I’m not the fastest type), so I can tell he was getting a little ticked off. My point is that I really didn’t know if he really didn’t care, was just frustrated, or was really just having a bad day. The written element I feel has a greater margin for error.
